Golfer Why he is on the list: Tiger had a pretty good 12 months. In no particular order: He became the first player since 1953 to win three majors in a year; he won nine PGA Tour events (the most since 1950); his scoring average was 68.17 -- 1.46 shots better than his nearest competitor; he had $9 million in official earnings -- which doesn't include his $100 million deal with Nike. Why they are on the list: Newsweek had Florida. TV Guide had Florida. Why can't we have Florida? There were no chads, but the BCS computer put Florida State ahead of Miami despite the fact the Hurricanes beat the Seminoles on the field -- giving the Noles a trip to the national title game and the Canes the slight hope of a split title. What was that we heard about computers having no feelings? Oh, wait -- that was presidential politics. |
