The List: Leary's favorite Boston athletes
Page 2 staff

Born and raised in Worcester, Mass., helped make actor-comedian Denis Leary a big fan of Boston sports. The star and co-writer of ABC's "The Job" -- and an occasional guest sportscaster on ABC's NHL telecasts -- recently listed his five favorite athletes in Boston history.

Bobby Orr
No. 4 Bobby Orr is No. 1 with Denis Leary.
1. Bobby Orr
Hockey's my favorite sport. And growing up, obviously, he was The Man and still is.

I've gotten to know him, he works with the Denis Leary Firefighters Foundation with me, and he's just an amazing, amazing guy. What he's done with his celebrity is astounding. Most of the stuff he does nobody knows about because he does it on the QT, but I'm very, very impressed by him.

2. Carl Yastrzemski
Yaz because I also love baseball, he was my favorite player, I played left field, I had a Yaz Triple Crown baseball glove. Just fantastic.

3. Cam Neely
He's the all-around Boston-type player. Tough, threw his body into it, and again, a big charity guy.

4. Ted Williams
You gotta have Ted in there. I mean they named a tunnel after him in Boston.

5. Larry Bird
Because he brought the Celtics back from nowhere. And I loved watching him play. A great work ethic.
