COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Organizers of the Pan American Games plan to meet Saturday to discuss the 2003 games scheduled to be held in the Dominican Republic.

The agenda for the meeting, which will be held at the U.S. Olympic Committee headquarters, has not been released, said USOC spokesman Bob Condron.

The announcement of the meeting comes a week after lawmakers in the Dominican Republic questioned whether the Caribbean nation can afford the estimated $62.5 million needed to stage the games.

The government of former President Leonel Fernandez agreed to host the quadrennial regional Olympics, but he was voted out of office in May.

Canada, Argentina and Cuba staged the three previous Pan Am Games in 1999, 1995 and 1991.
