Superstar's super start
From his first NHL season, Wayne Gretzky collected 23 individual awards in the NHL. In 1979-80, he won the Hart Trophy as league MVP and the Lady Byng Trophy as the most gentlemanly player. The Edmonton center tied for the league lead in points (137), but lost the Art Ross Trophy because Los Angeles' Marcel Dionne had two more goals. Gretzky was ineligible for the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie because of his season in the WHA.
