Interesting tidbits on Roy's career

ESPN.com

Patrick Roy<
Roy
Patrick Roy has played a lot of hockey games. A grand total of 1,042 NHL games if playoffs are included. Over that span, he's played in every building, against every team -- except for Minnesota. Through it all, some intriguing things jump out of his resumé.

Here are a few things ESPN.com found interesting about Roy's career.

  • Want to know which goalies Roy has a losing record against? Andy Moog, Mike Vernon, Ken Wregget, Martin Brodeur, Clint Malarchuk, Chris Osgood, Ron Hextall, Dominik Hasek, Dominic Roussell, Jimmy Waite, Blaine Lacher -- you can bet Lacher's used that fact while impressing at the bar -- Mario Gosselin, Dwayne Roloson, Roman Turek and then a whole host of one-hit wonders.

Besides Lacher -- who beat Roy twice and lost once -- Gosselin's record was an impressive 6-1 against St. Patrick. Roy's collective record against these guys? 48-90-22. Another interesting nugget is that Roy neither defeated nor lost to Pete Peters. He tied him four times.

  • Roy feasted on the Hartford Whalers when he was with Montreal. Even though he only plays the team (Hurricanes) formerly known as the Whalers, it remains the franchise against which he has the most wins. Roy is 35-18-7 against Hartford/Carolina.

  • Four teams have a winning record against Roy: Calgary (15-11-4), Tampa Bay (9-6-1), Philly (11-5-9) and Florida (5-3-2).

  • Roy has won more on Saturdays (140) than any other day. His best day during the week is Wednesday with 96.

  • Of all his wins, 137 of them have been by one goal. He's only won once by a margin of 10.

  • Teammate Ray Bourque has scored 48 points against Roy (13-35-48) in 58 games. Wayne Gretzky scored on Roy five times in 23 meetings, but chipped in 30 assists in those games. Mario Lemieux had 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 17 games.
