Beezer leaves NHL without Cup
Associated Press
DENVER -- New Jersey backup goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck
ended a nearly two decade NHL career by retiring shortly after the
Devils lost the Stanley Cup.

Vanbiesbrouck, who was acquired late in the season from the
Islanders, was hoping to end his career with his first Cup, but it
didn't happen as the Devils lost to Colorado 3-1 in Game 7 Saturday
night.
"I just feel like it's time to pursue other endeavors," said
Vanbiesbrouck, who didn't see any action in the playoffs. "I came
in as a young 18-year-old in Colorado and played my first game.
It's ironic my last game is here, too. It's been a special 20
years."
Vanbiesbrouck, 37, also appeared in the finals in 1996 with the
Florida Panthers. He played all four games as Florida was swept by
Colorado. Send this story to a friend | Most sent stories
