Associated Press PITTSBURGH -- The NHL fined Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matthew Barnaby $2,000 for his behavior during Sunday's playoff game against Philadelphia and reinstated a previous $25,000 fine against him. Barnaby was fined $1,000 for bumping into referee Mark Faucette during the Penguins' 6-3 loss and another $1,000 for confronting Flyers backup goalie John Vanbiesbrouck during the pregame skate. Barnaby was upset at being pinned down by defenseman Adam Burt on a play that resulted in a Flyers goal and charged across the ice to bump Faucette, who ejected him. Before the game, Barnaby and Vanbiesbrouck exchanged words at mid-ice. Barnaby then followed the goalie to the Flyers' bench and pointed his stick at the seat Vanbiesbrouck usually occupies during games. Because of the two incidents, a conditional $25,000 fine assessed Barnaby for a pregame run-in with Toronto's Tie Domi in January was reinstated. According to NHL spokesman Frank Brown, the fine was to be rescinded if Barnaby was not involved in any other such incidents during the season. Despite being fined, Barnaby was not suspended for Tuesday night's Flyers-Penguins game. |
