Police: Alcohol played a role in accident

TORONTO Former NHL player Brett Lindros remained in fair
condition Monday following an accident in which his snowmobile
crashed into rocks on a lake in rural Ontario.
Lindros, the 25-year-old brother of NHL star Eric Lindros, was
transferred from Parry Sound, about three hours north of Toronto,
to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
His father, Carl Lindros, said Sunday his son had internal
injuries and possibly a broken rib or two.
Brett Lindros was one of two people whose snowmobiles crashed
through the ice on Crane Lake and sank, Parry Sound police said.
The two men pulled themselves from the water onto the ice
without injury. Lindros then climbed on the back of a snowmobile
driven by a friend, Dan Cameron. That machine crashed into a rocky
shoreline about 3:30 a.m.
Police say they were part of a group of six returning to
cottages.
Alcohol was a factor in the accident, police said. A blood
sample from Cameron has been sent for testing. Results could take
four to six weeks. As a passenger, Lindros did not have to provide a
blood sample.
Lindros and Cameron were wearing helmets.
A resident called for help after the accident. Lindros was taken
to an ambulance on a friend's snowmobile. Cameron, said to be more
seriously injured, was taken to the ambulance by workers on a
snowmobile rescue sled.
Lindros played for the New York Islanders before concussions
forced his retirement. He is the host of a sports series
on TSN. Send this story to a friend
