DENVER -- Bob Hartley, who has coached the Colorado
Avalanche to the Western Conference finals in each of his first
two seasons behind the bench, was rewarded with a one-year
contract extension Saturday.
Terms were not disclosed. The new pact runs through the 2001-02
season.
"Bob has enjoyed two successful seasons with the Avalanche
organization. He has had to overcome several injuries to key
players at the beginning of each season and has managed to guide
his teams to a near 100-point season both times," general
manager Pierre Lacroix said.
Hartley, who turns 40 on Thursday, has an 86-57-21 record with
the Avalanche, leading them to consecutive division titles.
When
he was named the 11th coach in franchise history in June 1998,
he had no NHL coaching experience. But he inherited a team
loaded with talent that was only two years removed from a
Stanley Cup championship. | |
