NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers will be without
injured goaltender Mike Richter for at least seven to 10 days because of a disc protrusion in his back, the team announced Thursday.
The loss of Richter comes two days after the team placed right wing Valeri Kamensky on the seven-day injured list with a stress fracture in his right arm suffered in Friday's season opener at Edmonton. He is also expected to miss seven to 10 days. Richter's injury makes Kirk McLean the Rangers' starting goalie. McLean appeared in 30 games with Florida last season, posting 9-10-4 record with a 2.74 GAA. Former Czech national star Milan Hnilicka was recalled from the minors to serve as McLean's backup.Kamensky, signed as a free agent to a four-year, $17 million contract over the summer, tallied an assist before the injury. He spent his first eight seasons with the Quebec/Colorado franchise. Richter started both games this season, going 0-1-1 with a 1.45 goals-against average.
Center Tim Taylor, another offseason signing, is also out
after suffering a concussion in Saturday's game at Vancouver. He is listed as day-to-day.
