There will be two surprise teams this year. Not Super Bowl bound, but they will do better then expected. The 49ers and the Patriots. The 49ers have one of the weakest schedules in the league. Jeff Garcia won't win them the games, Rick Mirer will. He understands the offense and likes it and unlike Garcia he takes chances throwing deep. Although their preseason record was bad, their games were close, and they were or close in each game at halftime. Their back ups blew it. David Haney Springfield,Va. Wow, just wow. Miami is at No. 22 when I last checked. For a team with one of the best defenses in the NFL and that made the playoffs last year, I'm very surprised. They went 5-1 under Huard, and Fiedler looks even better. Hey, they might even improve! Victor Schorn San Diego, Calif. Rams this year: 8-8 team at best. Redskins: 10-6 team at best and that's if all the million dollar men can play nice together. Titans: 13-3, good team ... But the team to watch will be the Jets. you do the math ... ((Vinny Testaverde + young new talent) - Rick Mirer) = No. 1 Craig Pilks Las Vegas, Nev. Thiesman is only won of you guys with any guts! Joe, I'm with you baby! I say the'Skins go undefeated in NFC East. That should give them a decent record, giving them a bye in the first round of the playoffs. They will be able to rest the starters the last couple games of the season, and might play at least one playoff game at home. Sounds like a good plan for a super bowl trip to me. Malcolm Nunes Atlanta, Ga. HA!!! Where did you "experts" pick the Rams in your power rankings last year? Of course, Bandwagon Boys that you are, you've suddenly got on board a ship that left port last year!! Your picks are about as predictable as the outcome of each Major League baseball season. Only your Broncos pick is an eye opener, the rest are bandwagon sell-outs. Craig Vollmer Lee's Summit, Mo. I have a hard time accepting the Rams as the rankings' No. 1 team this season. With the holes in the line that haven't been filled, Warner might not have the time to throw all those long bombs that made this team so successful last season. Eric Stevens Tucson, Ariz. You guys have really done it this time. YOU GUYS SUCK!!!! ... There is no way in hell that NEW ENGLAND is 21st. Bledsoe's arm alone makes them a top-10 club. Sean Curran Boston, Mass. Once again this year you have missed the boat on the Chargers and the AFC West. You continue to love the Raiders even though they have underachieved for eight-plus years. You must think Gunther Cunningham is the second coming of Bill Parcells because the Chiefs have lost more talent than anyone in the NFL this year. Bill Nimmo San Diego, Calif. The J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS at No. 18? Are you smoking something funny? The Jets, AFC conference finalists only two years ago, missed the playoffs last year only due to losing their starting QB and starting Rick Mirer for three games. Need I say more? Ed O'Reilly New York, N.Y. I find it interesting that St. Louis is the top-ranked team on ESPN.com and yet none of the experts you've posted on your site pick the Rams to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Most of the experts have picked either the Colts or Titans, and I have to agree. Tim Kenneally Boston, Mass. I honestly believe the Benglas are postseason-bound. Call me crazy. But we'll see.
