Lamar Thomas' touchdown catch with 3:42 left proved to be the game-winner for the Dolphins. |
This time, there was no miracle finish for Doug Flutie in Miami. Nearly 15 years after his "Hail Mary" pass for Boston College, Flutie ran out of magic just when he was on the verge of leading another amazing rally. Trace Armstrong forced a Flutie fumble with nine seconds left, preserving the Dolphins' 24-17 victory over the Bills in an AFC wild-card game Saturday. Flutie had driven the Bills inside Miami's 10-yard line before Buffalo was burned by its fifth turnover of the day. Buffalo's Eric Moulds set a playoff record with 240 yards receiving. Dan Marino's TD pass to Lamar Thomas gave Miami a 10-point lead with 3:42 left, and the Dolphins then held on in a frantic finish. Sean Salisbury's breakdown
