Here's the latest news on key injuries going into Week 6:

John Clayton's injury updates
Team Injury update
The Cardinals may have their starting cornerbacks -- Corey Chavous and Tom Knight -- back on the field together for the first time since the opener. Each has practiced all week. Guard Pete Kendall vows to play despite a shoulder injury. Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch has not yet set the time for the knee surgery that will keep him out for six-to-eight weeks. He's out. Coach Dave McGinnis is leaning toward not playing defensive tackle Marcus Bell, who's been out with an elbow injury. The Cardinals will have seven defensive linemen available. Thomas Burke and rookie Fred Wakefield, who was undrafted, will get the starts against the Chiefs. Rob Moore had a setback on his recovery from a hamstring injury and will miss his fifth consecutive games.
The Falcons wide receivers are pretty banged up, but the only one who won't play is Tony Martin, who needs another week to recovered from his shoulder separation. Shawn Jefferson was upgraded from questionable to probable Thursday despite toe and ankle problems. Terance Mathis will play despite a hand injury. The only question for coach Dan Reeves is to what to do with weakside linebacker Chris Draft, who practiced all week and appears to be recovered from his toe injury. Reeves may go with Mark Simoneau again, but it will be a game day decision. The Falcons visit the Saints Sunday.
Kipp Vickers get the starts at guard for Edwin Mulitalo, who had arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday and will be out seven to 10 days. Tight end Todd Heap may end his three-game absence. His high ankle sprain has healed enough for him to return as Shannon Sharpe's backup. Defensive end Rob Burnett is still questionable with a broken hand, but should play.
Quarterback Chris Weinke practiced for the second consecutive day on his sore left hip and sore right thigh and was pronounced fit enough to start against the Redskins. He missed Wednesday's practice. Wide receiver Mushin Muhammad tried out his calf injury Friday and was fine. The linebacking corps also looks stronger now that veterans Dean Wells and Hannibal Navies have returned after missing last week's game against New Orleans. The new short position is at defensive end. Jason Peter, who's had six neck and back operations, is out with a sore neck and shoulder. That leaves the Panthers with only three healthy defensive ends -- Jay William, Mike Rucker and Chris Slade.
Bears cornerback R.W. McQuarters was added to the injury list Friday because of a groin injury. He is listed as probable. Tight end Fred Baxter, who's been out with hip and neck problems, practiced on Friday and may be back in the lineup. The only question is if Dick Jauron stays with John Davis. Deep-snapper Patrick Mannelly appears to have recovered from the ankle injury that sidelined him a week ago, so the Bears won't have to cut Shane Matthews Saturday and re-signed him Monday as they did a week ago.
Bengals coach Dick LeBeau still hasn't announced the replacement for starting cornerback Rodney Heath, who is out for the season with a torn hamstring. It's either going to be Robert Bean or Mark Roman. The decision may wait until Sunday. Right tackle Willie Anderson didn't have any problems Friday with the sprained MCL of his knee. Reinard Wilson is still listed as questionable because of a concussion suffered Thursday, but he practiced on Friday.
Dennis Northcutt was named as the starting receiver ahead of rookie Quincy Morgan now that he's recovered from his fractured clavicle. He'll start on the other side of Kevin Johnson. Defensive end Courtney Brown, who may be a week away from his 2001 regular-season debut, was ruled out for his sixth consecutive game. End Keith McKenzie is also questionable because of a pulled abdominal muscle. Though McKenzie is expected to play, he probably won't start. Tyrone Rogers and Greg Spires will get the start against the Ravens. Guard Ross Verba got hit in his head during Thursday's practice, but his head cleared up enough for him to practice Friday. The Browns added starting guard Jeremy McKinney to the injury report as probable with an elbow injury but he is expected to play.
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan upgraded Brian Griese from questionable to probable Friday, meaning that Griese will start Sunday against the Chargers. A week ago, Griese played enough though he only practiced on Friday. He's had back-to-back practices Thursday and Friday. Guard Dan Neil, who was downgraded from probable to questionable Thursday, remains a question mark. He did some limited work during Friday's practice.
The Lions will be down three starters on defense and two on offense because of injuries for Sunday's game against the Titans. The secondary got a break when cornerback Terry Fair (foot) and strong safety Ron Rice (ankle) came out of this week's practices healthy enough to play. Fair had been listed as doubtful, but it looks as though he will start. In fact, Rice and Fair were upgraded to probable Safety Tommy Bennett was upgraded from out to questionable and may be able to contribute as a backup. He's had a hamstring injury. The biggest decision involved cornerback Bryant Westbrook. He's practice, and the Lions are considering putting him on the field, but the debate is whether or not to let him wait until the next game on grass to test out the Achilles tendon he blew out last season. Westbrook hasn't play this season. Expect him not to play Sunday. Chris Claiborne moves to middle linebacker replacing injury Stephen Boyd, who will miss two or three weeks with back problems. Barrett Green starts at Claiborne's outside spot. There will be two changes on the offensive line. Right tackle Aaron Gibson, despite getting his weight into the low 370s, has been bothered by a sore knee and fourth-quarter fatigue so Matt Joyce starts against the Titans Sunday. Tony Semple gets his second consecutive start at guard ahead of Stockar McDougle, who has missed practice with a foot injury.
Wide receiver Bill Schroeder was downgraded from probable to questionable Friday because of an ankle injury that has kept him out of practice all week. Corey Bradford will get the start for Schroeder if he can't go. Packers coach Mike Sherman has to decide by Sunday whether he wants to use returner-cornerback Allen Rossum, who has missed four games because of a hamstring injury.
Colts coach Jim Mora all but ruled out two of his three top receivers Friday. Mora officials scratched Jerome Pathon because of his foot injury. He downgraded Terrence Wilkins to doubtful with a chest injury. Rookie Reggie Wayne gets the start. The other position to watch for the Patriots game is tackle. Tarik Glenn and Adam Meadows haven't practiced much this week. Glenn has a shoulder injury, but he should be all right. Meadows is a little bit more iffy because of a hamstring injury. Each is listed as probable.
The Chiefs got some good news on the injury front this week. Fullback Tony Richardson will be able to play and probably start after coming back a week or two early from a shoulder injury. Cornerback Ray Crockett is out with a broken hand. Right tackle Victor Riley is out with a fractured ankle. That causes two changes on the offensive line. Marcus Spears moves from left guard to right tackle. Donald Willis moves into the starting lineup as left guard.
Vikings receiver Randy Moss remains probable and should play against the Packers Sunday. He's practice the past couple of days, including Friday. Moss aggravated an old ankle injury. The Vikings will be without halfback Michael Bennett (ankle) and guard Corbin Lacina (ankle). Doug Chapman starts at halfback. Everett Lindsay starts at guard.
Saints defensive end Joe Johnson was upgraded from doubtful to questionable because he wants to play in Sunday's game against the Falcons despite a triceps injury. Some people in the organization thought it would be advisable to sit out this game in order for Johnson to be healthier for next week's game against the Rams. Johnson doesn't want that to happen. Daryl Terrell gets the start for guard Wally Williams, who is doubtful with a hamstring injury. The Saints added their fourth cornerback (Michael Hawthorne) to the injury list as questionable with a hamstring injury that he suffered Thursday.
The Jets go into Sunday's game against the Rams with a healthy roster. Santana Moss and returner Chad Morton are the only scratches. Defensive end Shaun Ellis practiced on his sore hip and will start. Defensive tackle Steve Martin will play with his foot injury. Wayne Chrebet recovered from the slight concussion he suffered Thursday and felt good enough on Friday to practice.
Terry Glenn's return to the Patriots may have been a short one. A week after ending a four-game suspension and catching seven passes for 110 yards against the Chargers, Glenn is a big question mark for Sunday's game against the Colts. Thirty minutes into Thursday's practice, Glenn experienced tightness in a leg and couldn't finish. He missed Friday's practice, so coach Bill Belichick is faced with a game-day decision Sunday whether or not to play him. Glenn was one of five Patriots who didn't practice Friday. The list included quarterback Drew Bledsoe (chest), nose tackle Richard Seymour (leg), safety Antwan Harris (ankle) and cornerback Terrance Shaw (flu).

As the Eagles and Giants prepared for Monday night's showdown in Giants Stadium, each team appears to be getting healthier. Eagles halfback Duce Staley (shoulder) continues to practice and is set to return. Giants halfback Tiki Barber (hamstring) is doing the same. The only question marks are on the Giants. Cornerback Will Allen (ankle) and wide receiver Ron Dixon (ankle) each missed their second day of practice and remain questionable. If Allen can't go, rookie William Peterson will probably get the start.
Rams coach Mike Martz stopped short of saying Marshall Faulk won't play Sunday against the Jets, but don't expect him to play. The Rams have a crucial NFC West game Oct. 28 against the Saints and they need Faulk for that game. All Faulk has done this week is work on a bike and a treadmill because of his knee bruise. He's only missed two games as a Ram. Faulk told reporters he's played with worse injuries, but the question is whether he should. At right tackle, Rod Jones starts for Ryan Tucker, who struggled last week against the Giants with a broken left thumb and separated left shoulder. Defensive tackle Jeff Zgonina remains doubtful with a thumb injury.
The Buccaneers' defense is expected to be without starting free safety Dexter Jackson (thigh) and backup linebacker Jeff Gooch (shoulder). Rookie John Howell, a fourth-round choice, gets the start at free safety. The player to watch is linebacker Derrick Brooks, whom defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin admitted he made a mistake letting Brooks play last week. Brooks struggled but he has never missed a game. Brooks will start this Sunday against halfback Jerome Bettis of the Steelers. Brooks, mad at first, looked at the tape of the Titans game and agreed with Kiffin later in the week. The Steelers should have all players available.
The Titans may enter Sunday's game against the Lions with a complete new secondary from a year ago. Strong safety Blaine Bishop didn't practice again Friday, and his sprained foot may not be up to the task of playing on the hard Silverdome turf. If he can't go, the new secondary would consist of Donald Mitchell and DeRon Jenkins at cornerback, Joe Walker and Eric Morris at safety. The Titans didn't bring back cornerback Denard Walker and Marcus Robertson. Samari Rolle is recovering from a neck injury. The Titans also have problems at defensive tackle. Three of their top four defensive tackles have varying degrees of injury. John Thornton probably won't play because of his shoulder injury. Joe Salave'a was limited in Friday's practice because of a shoulder injury but may be able to go. He's listed as questionable. Defensive tackle Josh Evans only did a little because of a knee injury. All the Titans have left is Jason Fisk and Robaire Smith. They may ask end Henry Ford to play some tackle. That might not be necessary though if Evans and Salave'a takes some snaps. Wide receiver Derrick Mason is still sore because of a high ankle sprain but he is expected to play. The Titans are also down two wide receivers.
Redskins defensive end Marco Coleman is making a run at returning to the lineup after a three-game absence. Coleman practiced Friday and may try to play. The Redskins will be without defensive end Bruce Smith (shoulder), cornerback Fred Smoot (knee-tibia), center Mark Fischer (knee) and tight end Stephen Alexander (ankle). Ben Coleman starts at guard for Matt Campbell, but that had nothing to do with injuries. It was a coach's decision. The Redskins play the Panthers.
