CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Virginia standout
Erin Stovall has taken a personal
leave of absence from the team, the school announced this week.
Coach Debbie Ryan said her return to the Cavaliers was
uncertain.
"She doesn't want to play basketball at the moment," Ryan
said, adding she had "no clue" whether Stovall will return this
season.
"In a way, it was a surprise," Ryan said. "In a way, it
wasn't. I know the decision is not the right one. But I don't know
if playing basketball is the right thing for Erin right now,
either."
Stovall, Hawaii's Ms. Basketball in 1997, was a two-year starter
and a preseason first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference
selection. She ranked second on the team in scoring this season
with 13.9 points a game.
She was replaced in the starting lineup this week by sophomore
Telisha Quarles, who was averaging 8.6 points a game. |
