For the third time in five seasons, the Penguins earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament after defeating Valparaiso 73-57 in the Mid-Continent Conference tounament. Junior Brianne Kenneally, the tourney MVP, paces the Penguins with an 18.7 scoring average. Youngstown State has decent balance, with Leslie Majewski and Darbi O'Brien also averaging double-figures in points. Rebounding, however, is suspect. Team leader Missy Young tops out at eight a game, with Penguins getting outrebounded by an average of five boards a game
