OUTLOOK First round: Lost to St. Joseph's, 69-48
In Austin, it's all about coaching legend Jody Conradt, the all-time winningest women's college basketball coach with more than 740 career victories, and Edwina Brown, a Naismith Player of the Year and Kodak All-American finalist. Brown, a 5-foot-10 senior, finished the regular season ranked in the top 10 in seven Big 12 statistical categories. She averages 21.4 points and 8.2 rebounds, and is easily one of the best passers in the game. Brown should be one of the most exciting players to watch in the tournament, as she has come up big all season. In the Longhorns' upset of Oklahoma in the Big 12 quarterfinals, for example, Brown scored 26, including 16 in the final 8:35 and the go-ahead layup and free throw with 17 seconds to play to seal the win. In 1999, No. 12 seed Texas lost to Auburn in the first round.
