Tennessee playbook: Plenty of Volunteers

Without All-Everything player Chamique Holdsclaw and veteran point guard Kellie Jolly, the Tennessee Lady Vols will try to return to their status as a permanent Final Four fixture.

The Lady Vols enter the NCAA Tournament fresh off their SEC tourney championship, with a 15-game winning streak and an overall record of 28-3. The Lady Vols are paced by four players who score in double-figures: Tamika Catchings (15.5 ppg), Semeka Randall (14.2 ppg), Kara Lawson (14.1 ppg) and Michelle Snow (12.4 ppg). This play gives each of those players an opportunity to score.

ANIMATE THIS PLAY DIAGRAM WITH SHOCKWAVE
(A) Kara Lawson (20) starts with a pass to Semeka Randall (21) on the wing, and makes a hard cut to the basket. Tamika Catchings (24) holds for a moment at the mid post.

(B) The first option is the pick-and-roll with Randall and Catchings. Randall can either shoot the jumper on the pick, drive to the basket, or hit Catchings on the roll to the basket.

(C) On the opposite side, Lawson gets a double screen from Michelle Snow (00) and Ace Clement (33). If either defender on the double screen hedges out to help with Lawson, Clement or Snow should step into lane for a quick pass.
