Bio Rhythms: Purdue's Katie Douglas


The term "break a leg" means good luck for some. But when Katie Douglas broke her arm twice while playing softball, it worked the same magic for Purdue.

Douglas, a junior for the defending national championship Boilermakers, started off her athletic career as a softball player. But after suffering two broken arms, Douglas "decided to try something different," and eventually began playing basketball. A decade later, Douglas has won a national title and been honored as the Big Ten Player of the Year.

Douglas shared her story on a survey she completed for ESPN.com. More than 20 players were asked to participate, and the Tournament Dish will continue to roll out the Bio Rhythms -- a fun and humorous look at the athlete by the athlete -- throughout the women's NCAA Tournament.

How did you get started playing basketball? I broke my arm twice in softball and decided to try something different. I was about 10 years old when I started getting serious about basketball.

What is your best memory or moment on the basketball court? When I threw the ball up as high as I could right before the final whistle blew and we won the national championship.

Do you have any pregame rituals? I have so many superstitions before a game that it's kind of ridiculous. I must take a nap and I must drink a Dr. Pepper. We eat Chicken (with Teriyaki sauce), mashed potatoes, corn and fruit salad before every game.

Who is the best player you've ever faced? Stephanie McCarty, Ukari Figgs and Chamique Holdsclaw.

Which player -- man or woman -- would you most like to take one-on-one? Kobe Bryant.

Person you'd most like to meet? Michael Jordan.

Tell us something we don't know about you: I hate scary movies.
