TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Carol Smith scored 20 points and LaRita Spencer added 15, seven rebounds and nine assists, leading No. 15 Auburn to an 89-49 romp over Ball State in the first round of the USF Classic.

Lori Nero added 14 points and six rebounds for the Lady Tigers (6-0), who built a double-digit lead in the first half and broke open the game in the second half.

Tamara Bowie scored 14 points and Julie Just added 12 for the Cardinals (3-2). Bowie did not score in the second half, when Ball State hit just three field goals, shooting 9.7 percent (3-of-31).

After building a 45-32 lead at halftime, Auburn came out of the locker room and went on a 22-3 charge. Tasha Hamilton scored six of her eight points in the run.

The Lady Tigers shot 53 percent (18-of-34), blocked three shots and committed just five turnovers in the second half. They took their largest lead, 83-39, on a jumper by Nancy Derrick with 3:57 left.

Auburn will play the winner of Arkansas-Little Rock and South Florida in Saturday's final.
