Vandy breaks out before half

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Chantelle Anderson scored 23 points to lead No. 25 Vanderbilt to a 79-61 victory Sunday over Miami of Ohio in the championship game of the First Tennessee tournament.

The RedHawks (2-3) stayed even with Vanderbilt (3-1) at the beginning of the game, with frequent lead changes.

Then Jillian Danker hit a free throw to tie the game 19-19 at the midway through the first half. Anderson, who had nine rebounds for Vanderbilt, followed with a layup to give the Commodores a 21-19 lead.

Vanderbilt never trailed again.

Ashley McElhiney hit a 3-pointer from just over the half-court mark on the Vanderbilt side to give the Commodores a 41-27 lead at the half.

Jillian Danker had 16 points for Vanderbilt and McElhiney had 13. Jenni Benningfield and Hillary Hager added 10 each.

The RedHawks were led by Heather Cusick with 21 points. Colleen Day added 10 points and seven rebounds.
