Scarlet Knights put 20-0 run to good use

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Karlita Washington scored 10 points in a 20-0 Rutgers run in the second half as the seventh-ranked Scarlet Knights beat George Washington 81-54 Sunday in the Coca-Cola Classic championship game.

Washington finished with 20 points to win the Most Valuable Player award.

Rutgers (3-0) took the lead from the start and built a 25-11 advantage as Washington made two baskets and Tasha Pointer went the length of the court with a steal.

George Washington whittled the margin to six points twice before the half. But the Scarlet Knights' defense held George Washington (2-2) to 38-percent shooting and pressured the Colonials into 23 turnovers.

Pointer added 16 points and 12 assists, and Davalyn Cunningham also had 16 points for Rutgers. Lindsey Davidson had 15 points, Petra Dubovcova 14 and Erica Lawrence 11 for George Washington.
