ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands (AP) -- Katrisa O'Neal scored 24
points to lead Texas Tech (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) to a 79-71 victory over Penn
State (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 9 AP) on Friday in the first round of the Paradise Jam Classic.
O'Neal was 10-of-21 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line for
Texas Tech (2-0). Plenette Pierson added 16 points on 6-for-8
shooting, and Jia Perkins had 12 points.
Kelly Mazzante led Penn State (2-2) with 22 points. She was
4-of-10 from 3-point range and 9-of-17 overall.
Lisa Shepherd added 13 points for Penn State, Rashana Barnes had
12 points and Maren Walseth 11.
