Curtin closes out DePaul at home

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Allison Curtin scored 15 of her 18 points in the second half as Illinois (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) beat DePaul 74-64 on Friday night.

Susan Blauser led Illinois (7-3) with 20 points, 15 in the first half. Kylie Martin added 14 points. Lenae Williams led the DePaul (4-2) with 25 points, and Jaime Smith added 11.

Illinois had an overwhelming advantage from the free-throw line, going 35-for-46 to DePaul's 14-for-17. DePaul was called for 35 fouls, with four players fouling out. Illinois committed 19 fouls.

Illinois led by 13 points with 2½ minutes remaining but watched DePaul close within 69-64 on Smith's foul line jumper with 1:01 to play.

But Martin made the first of two free throws four seconds later and Curtin and Melissa Parker each made two foul shots in the final 44 seconds as Illinois sealed its third straight win.

Blauser, who was 10-of-13 from the foul line, also grabbed nine rebounds for the Illini, who held a 40-27 advantage on the boards and connected on 46 percent (19-of-41) of their shots.

DePaul shot 35 percent (21-of-60), including 8-of-27 from 3-point range.
