Duke shakes off Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Georgia Schweitzer's 27 points helped Duke (No. 18 ESPN/USA Today, No. 20 AP) hold off a strong second-half run as the Blue Devils beat No. 24 Virginia Tech 70-61 Wednesday night.

The Hokies (5-3) trailed 40-26 at the half but cut the lead to one with 3:35 left. Tech had a chance to take the lead but lost possession when Emily Lipton traveled.

On Duke's next possession, Krista Gingrich hit a 3-pointer to give the Blue Devils (7-1) a four-point lead. Duke finished the game by outscoring the Hokies 14-9 over the final three minutes.

Peppi Browne added 15 for Duke.

Amy Wetzel led the Hokies with 22 points while making 7-of-9 shots from the field. Sarah Hicks scored 14.
