Gauchos keep it perfect in Big West

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) -- Erin Buescher had 26 points and 13 rebounds as UC Santa Barbara (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) beat UC Irvine 75-58 on Friday night, extending the Gauchos' winning streak to 14 games.

Kristi Rohr added 13 points for the Gauchos (18-3, 6-0 Big West), Tawnee Cooper had 12 points, and Nicole Greathouse had 12 rebounds.

Megan Stafford led the Anteaters (10-9, 3-4) with 20 points, and Wendy Gabbe added 14.

UCSB opened the game with a 9-2 run, capped off by a 3-point play by Buescher with 17:44 remaining in the half.

Nicole Greathouse hit two freethrows with 9:07 remaining to give the Gauchos their biggest lead, 27-12, in the first half. UC Irvine outscored UCSB 14-11 the rest of the half to close the gap to 38-26 by halftime.

But UCSB dominated the second half, opening with an 8-3 run. Tawnee Cooper shot a freethrow with 3:48 left in the game to bring the score to 69-43.

UCSB shot 43.3 percent from the field, while UC Irvine shot 37.9 percent for the game.
