ATLANTA (AP) -- Svetlana Volnaya made two free throws with 3.5 seconds left, lifting Virginia (No. 23 ESPN/USA Today, No. 24 AP) over Georgia Tech 66-65 Thursday night. Jaime Kruppa put the Yellow Jackets ahead 65-64 with a wide-open layup with 24 seconds remaining. Volnaya finished with 13 points as Virginia (17-5, 9-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) won its third straight game. Telisha Quarles scored 17 and Renee Robinson added 16. Georgia Tech (11-9, 4-6) used a 7-0 run to take a 58-57 lead with 4:03 to play after being down six with 5:42 left. Nina Barlin had 19 points for Georgia Tech, but she also had 11 turnovers.
