HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) _ Darryl Shelton passed for 235 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeated Alabama A&M 23-17 Saturday. The Bulldogs (6-5) were trailing by a touchdown and facing fourth-and-one on Arkansas-Pine Bluff's 36 with less than two minutes left. Quarterback Darnell Macklin's pass to Kelly Fields was batted away by Calvin Withers for Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-5) which then ran down the clock. Trailing 17-10 in the third quarter, Macklin had led the Bulldogs on a nine-play, 67-yard drive, capped by Travoris Nunn's 7-yard touchdown run that made it 17-17. On their next possession, the Bulldogs drove to the Arkansas-Pine Bluff 17, but the drive stalled and Macklin threw incomplete on a fourth-and-13 play from the 25. With about seven minutes left, Arkansas-Pine Bluff needed just four plays to score the game-winning touchdown. Shelton found Kevin Soward, who had gotten behind cornerback Brian Johnson, for a 44-yard gain down to the Alabama A&M 1. D.D. Shepherd scored one play later. Macklin gained 87 yards on 18 carries. A&M outgained Arkansas-Pine Bluff on the ground, 246 yards to 70. But the Bulldogs had only 34 yards passing.
