AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ Tim Lester broke the Mid-American Conference record for career passing yardage, throwing for 373 yards and two touchdowns as Western Michigan beat Akron 24-10 Saturday.

Lester has 10,482 passing yards, surpassing the record held by Brian McClure of Bowling Green, who threw for 10,280 yards from 1982-85.

Lester was 29-of-48 and threw both touchdowns to Corey Alston, who had five catches for 123 yards for the Broncos (7-2, 6-0).

Robert Sanford rushed for 111 yards on 18 carries for the Broncos, who have won their last six games.

The loss ended a four-game winning streak for Akron (6-3, 4-2).

Western Michigan led 13-0 early in the third quarter on a pair of field goals by Brad Selent and a 41-yard touchdown pass from Lester to Alston.

The Zips cut the Broncos' lead to 13-10 late in the third quarter when James Washington hit Lavel Bailey for a 77-yard touchdown pass.

The Broncos struck back with a 48-yard field goal by Selent, and Lester's 48-yard touchdown pass to Alston early in the fourth quarter.

Washington was 8-for-22 for 182 yards and one touchdown. Bailey had four receptions for 145 yards for Akron.
