BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Jerome Russell carried 24 times for 170 yards and a touchdown to lead Samford to a 35-28 win over Liberty Saturday. The Bulldogs (4-4) broke a 28-28 tie on Kadell Wright's 4-yard TD run with 1:59 left, capping a 10-play, 56-yard drive. Liberty (4-5) had scored on a 6-yard Stacy Nobles run with 7:25 to play. The Bulldogs, ranked fourth in Division I-AA in rushing offense, racked up 311 yards on the ground. Rashad Brewer rushed 15 times for 77 while Wright rushed for a pair of short scores. Josh Kellett completed 9-of-11 passes for 77 yards with an interception. He also rushed for 38 yards. Liberty's Christian Newsome completed 15-of-27 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns, two of them to Gavin Kralik. Trey Miller caught six passes for 92 yards while Kralik had five receptions for 69 yards. Nobles finished with 21 carries for 122 yards.
