AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ James Washington threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as Akron beat Bowling Green 55-25 and recorded its highest point total since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1992.

Washington completed 13-of-19 passes, including scoring passes of 15 and 71 yards to Lavel Bailey. Akron (5-2, 4-1 MAC), which hasn't had a winning record since 1992, has five wins in a season for the first time since 1993.

The Zips took a 7-0 lead when Bowling Green (2-5, 1-4) fumbled on its first possession, and Tony McCray scored on a 13-yard run five plays later.

Washington's 15-yard scoring pass to Bailey made 21-3 with 12:09 remaining in the second quarter.

Akron moved ahead 28-3 in the third quarter when Jimmie Gray scored on a 32-yard run and Washington hit Bailey from 71 yards out. Bailey caught five passes for 112 yards.

Kurt Gerling caught nine passes for 183 yards and a touchdown for Bowling Green. Ricky Schneider completed 13-of-22 for 192 yards and two scores.
