HOUSTON (AP) _ Ray Rubins rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown and Texas Southern held Alcorn State to just 131 yards of total offense as the Tigers won 23-21 on Saturday. After trailing 14-10 at halftime, Texas Southern (3-2, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) scored two third-quarter touchdowns on a 66-yard run by Joey Jamison and a 1-yard run by Herbert Winston to take command. Alcorn State (3-2, 1-1), which struggled to establish any rhythm offensively, took its first-half lead on a 1-yard run by Marcus Taylor and an 11-yard scoring pass from Taylor to Marco Walder. In addition to Rubins' strong effort, Texas Southern's running game was bolstered by 78 yards from Jamison and 65 yards from Winston. Julius Davis completed 11 of 25 passes for 64 yards for the Tigers. Alcorn State managed only 49 rushing yards on 32 attempts, and the team's leading rusher, Albert Jones, had just 19 yards. The Braves pulled within two points on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Damion Ford to Ronald Gilmore with 2:13 remaining, but they weren't able to regain possession in time to mount another drive.
