BOX SCORE
KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) _ Quarterback Willie McGirt rushed for 83 yards, including a 47-yard score, and Andre Bryant added two touchdown runs to lead Morgan State over Rhode Island 24-21 Saturday, snapping a six-game losing streak dating back to last year. Morgan State (1-2), which hasn't had a winning season since 1979 and a victory on the road in nearly two years, surged to an early 14-0 lead on McGirt's touchdown and a 13-yard run by Bryant. Rhode Island (0-3) narrowed the lead on a 5-yard run by David Jamison, and gained the momentum in the second half when Mike Wear recovered a McGirt fumble at the Morgan State 2, and quarterback Ken Mastrole plunged for the tying touchdown. But Morgan State marched right back with two long drives, capped by a Bryant touchdown and a K.C. Vasquez field goal. Mastrole plunged for another short touchdown in the fourth quarter, but a late Rhode Island rally stopped at the Morgan State 45.
