BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) -- Daniel Dixon threw three long touchdown passes as Alabama-Birmingham made a successful debut in Conference USA with a 29-10 victory over Houston.

UAB (1-2, 1-0 C-USA) was playing its first conference game after playing its first four years in Division I-A as an independent.

Dixon, who completed 7-of-14 passes for 209 yards, threw his first touchdown pass with 3:52 left in the first quarter, hooking up with Cedric Wilson from 55 yards to give the Blazers a 14-0 advantage.

Mike Green scored on a one-yard run and Mike Clark booted a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter to bring Houston (2-2, 0-1 C-USA) within 14-10 at the half.

Following a safety, Dixon found Darrius Malone with a 79-yard scoring strike with 7:44 to play in the third quarter to give the Blazers a 22-10 advantage. Dixon completed the scoring with a 31-yard TD pass to Johnni Arrington in the final period.

Houston played two quarterbacks. Jason McKinley was 9-of-23 for 126 yards, while Tyson Helton went 6-of-15 for 54 yards and was intercepted twice.
