COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) -- It took No. 7 Texas A&M awhile to warm up to The Zone.

Finally, Randy McCown accounted for three touchdowns, one running and two passing, including a school-record 96-yarder to Chris Taylor, as the Aggies capitalized on six turnovers for a 62-13 victory over Tulsa on Saturday night.

Tulsa
Tulsa quarterback Josh Blankenship was given an abrupt view of the ground Saturday by Texas A&M's Jason Glenn.
Texas A&M converted the turnovers into 34 points.

"I thought we started off rough but then got into a good tempo," A&M coach R.C. Slocum said. "I was pleased we were able to force turnovers and the offense capitalized on those opportunities. I was pleased that a lot of players got into the game with their families in the stands."

The Aggies (2-0) debuted the first section of The Zone, a $32.9 million, 22,720-seat addition at the north end of Kyle Field, and stretched their home winning streak to 14 games.

They are 50-4-1 in the 1990s and haven't lost there since a 13-10 loss to Texas Tech in 1996.

"We came out tonight and looked good at times and bad at others," McCown said. "We are fortunate to get a win tonight and we have to be more consistent. Maybe now that we don't have an off week, we can get a little better rhythm going."

McCown had a 20-yard touchdown pass to RoDerrick Broughton and a 12-yard touchdown run in the second quarter when the Aggies pulled away to a 31-7 halftime lead.

"We ran into a real good Texas A&M team," Tulsa coach Dave Rader said. "Turnovers killed us. We turned the ball over way too often. A&M may be the best team we've played.

"When you get an extra 10,000 people in the stadium, it's real loud at Kyle Field."

The record-breaking pass play came with 14:48 left in the game with Taylor streaking far behind the defense for the score. The previous Aggies record was a 92-yarder by Gary Kubiak to Don Jones against Louisiana Tech in 1981.

"It was just a play-action fake," McCown said. "The safety bit on the fake and I just laid the ball out there for him to run under it. He did a good job of getting to the ball."

Ja'Mar Toombs contributed to the Aggies' charge with 1-yard TD runs in the second and third quarters. Freshman Terence Kitchens kept his college slate perfect with field goals of 23 and 37 yards. The walk-on freshman is 5-for-5.

Taylor caught six passes for 166 yards.

The Aggies got off to a slow start against the big underdog Golden Hurricane (1-2) and trailed 7-3 at the end of the first quarter before they started capitalizing on the turnovers and blew to their big halftime lead.

The Aggies' longest touchdown drive of the first half was 46 yards.

Tulsa quarterback Michael Wall was intercepted twice and fumbled in the first half. Brandon Jennings picked off the first one and the Aggies took a 3-0 lead on a 23-yard field goal by Kitchens.

The Golden Hurricane took their only lead with 5:02 left in the first quarter on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Wall to Damon Savage.

Toombs scored on a 2-yard run to put the Aggies ahead with 13:32 left in the second quarter and they never trailed again.

Sedrick Curry recovered a fumble by Wall at the Tulsa 35, setting up a 20-yard touchdown pass from McCown to Broughton. Ronald Patton then picked off Wall at the Tulsa 33 leading to a 5-yard touchdown run by Dante Hall.

The Aggies went up 31-7 with 1:23 left in the half on McCown's 12-yard keeper.
