  RECAP | BOX SCORE

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) _ Revenge was sweet for Mississippi State. It was also sloppy and ugly.

Freshman Dontae Walker rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown as the Bulldogs beat Oklahoma State 29-11 on Saturday in a game marred by 12 turnovers _ six by each team _ and 195 yards in penalties.

Walker's 54-yard TD run at the start of the second quarter came one play after Ashley Cooper recovered a fumble by Cowboys quarterback Ben Bowling. That fumble was the first play after the Bulldogs fumbled away a punt return.

Mississippi State, 3-0 for the first time since 1991, scored on all three of its first quarter possessions _ the latter two after Oklahoma State fumbles _ to take a 12-0 lead.

Despite the fast start, Mississippi State was unable to seal the victory until Justin Griffith, another freshman, converted a screen pass from Wayne Madkin into a 52-yard touchdown with 6:58 left.

Oklahoma State (2-1) was held to just 176 yards and both of its young quarterbacks, sophomore B.J. Tiger and freshman Bowling, were ineffective. Tony Lindsay, who passed for 201 yards and ran for two scores in Oklahoma State's 42-23 victory over the Bulldogs last season, sat out with a knee injury.

The Cowboys were within 22-11 with 10:13 left after 290-pound defensive end Cortney Mallory intercepted a pass and labored to run 46 yards for the score before falling into the end zone out of sheer exhaustion.

Oklahoma State got the ball right back as Mississippi State quarterback Wayne Madkin threw his second straight interception, Raymond Cato grabbing a ball that was tipped at the line. The Cowboys failed to take advantage, Tim Syndes missing a 34-yard field goal.

Mississippi State then got a 25-yard run from Walker, setting up the screen pass that Griffith turned into his fourth TD of the year.

Madkin, who was just 5-of-18 for 118 yards and four interceptions, had started 12 straight games for Mississippi State since taking over for Matt Wyatt early in last year's game against Oklahoma State.

But with Madkin being penalized for missing class this week, Wyatt started and led the Bulldogs' first three scoring drives. State started with a 12-play, 56-yard drive that ended with Scott Westerfield's 41-yard field goal.

Tiger lost fumbles to end Oklahoma State's first two possessions, and Mississippi State cashed in both times. Westerfield kicked a 20-yard field goal and Wyatt threw a 12-yard TD pass to Kelvin Love.

Wyatt was 5-of-10 for 63 yards after the TD, but Madkin came in after that, handing off to Walker for a touchdown on his first play early in the second quarter.

Oklahoma State finally scored when Sydnes kicked a 22-yard field goal just before halftime, six plays after the teams had exchanged turnovers on consecutive plays for the second time in the game.

Westerfield kicked his third field goal, a 48-yarder, early in the fourth quarter.
