SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ Jay Rodgers passed for three touchdowns as Southwest Missouri State beat Texas Southern 37-7 on Saturday. Texas Southern (1-1) was limited to 86 yards, while Southwest Missouri (1-1) compiled 427 yards in total offense. Rodgers threw touchdown passes of 6 yards to Jeff Hewitt and 5 yards to Jason Ringena in the first three minutes. Texas Southern's biggest moment came with three minutes left in the first quarter when linebacker Warren Reed stole the ball and returned it 97 yards from the Southwest Missouri 2-yard line to the Texas Southern 1. Waymon Steed covered the final yard on the next play. Southwest Missouri widened its lead to 24-7 by halftime on a 44-yard field goal by Travis Brawner and a 5-yard touchdown run by Beno Gore. Rodgers hit Tacoma Fontaine with a 21-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and Brawner closed out the scoring with field goals of 47 and 32 yards. Rodgers completed of 13-of-25 passes for 155 yards.
