CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Deontey Kenner threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as Cincinnati romped past intrastate rival Kent, 41-3, in the season opener for both schools.

Kenner was deadly accurate for the Bearcats (1-0), completing 21-of-25 passes for 249 yards. The junior quarterback sent two of his scoring tosses to Ashley Hunt and had a 50-yard strike to Jason Collins-Baker, all in the first half.

Bearcats free safety DeJuan Gossett set the tone by forcing a fumble on the first play that was recovered by Troy Evans at the Kent 24. Three plays later, Kenner and Hunt combined for a 12-yard touchdown toss, but Joe Judge missed the extra point.

A 38-yard field goal by Dave Pavich pulled Kent (0-1) within 6-3 with 9:29 left in the first quarter before Kenner struck again, this time to Collins-Baker with 7:23 to go in the opening period.

P.J. Mays bulled in from one yard before Kenner and Hunt hooked up on a three-yard TD play to give Cincinnati a 27-3 lead. Kenner capped a 92-yard drive with a one-yard plunge 22 seconds into the fourth quarter and Lloyd Garden also scored from one yard to complete the scoring.

Cincinnati had four scoring drives of 76 yards or longer and racked up 495 yards of total offense. Mays had 98 yards on 15 carries, while Robert Cooper added 76 on as many attempts. The Bearcats held the ball for over 41 minutes, running 84 plays to Kent's 41.

Jose Davis completed only 2-of-13 passes for 16 yards for the Golden Flashes, who were held to 124 yards and went 0-for-9 on third-down conversions.
