PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- First-time starter John Turman threw for a touchdown and ran for another during a 20-point third-quarter that propelled Pittsburgh to a season-opening 30-10 victory over Bowling Green.

A junior college transfer, Turman completed 7-of-17 passes for 107 yards without an interception. His one-yard plunge three minutes into the second quarter gave the Panthers a 17-7 lead.

Turman's TD pass came 10 minutes into the third, when he found Antonio Bryant for a 26-yard score. The point after failed, but Nick Goings' four-yard run later in the period made it 30-7.

Goings gained 61 yards on 14 carries for Pittsburgh, which scored 30 consecutive points before improving to 3-0 in season openers under Walt Harris.

This was the first-ever meeting between the schools. The Panthers, from the Big East Conference, improved to 13-0 against the Mid-American Conference.

Ricky Schneider completed 17-of-33 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown and was intercepted once. Godfrey Lewis and John Gibson each had 63 yards on the ground for Bowling Green, which outgained the Panthers, 335-220.

Schneider connected with Robert Redd on a 22-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter, but the Panthers scored the next 30 points. Goings' one-yard TD run with 1:40 left in the first half gave Pittsburgh a 10-7 advantage.

Nick Lotz had connected on a 24-yard field goal earlier in the third quarter to open the scoring for the Panthers.
