Florida suspends Dupay 'indefinitely'

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida guard Teddy Dupay has been suspended for an undetermined period of time for violating unspecified team rules.

Ted Dupay
Teddy Dupay and his 22 points per game have been banished to the bench.

"I'm not going into what actually happened," Florida coach Billy Donovan told The Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But he's not going to play Saturday."

Donovan said the junior will not practice this week as the No. 10 Gators prepare to play DePaul. Dupay will return to practice next week and his status for the Michigan State game next Wednesday is "up in the air," Donovan said.

Donovan said Dupay's suspension had nothing to do with Dupay's criticism of Florida fans after Monday's 100-42 victory over Florida Atlantic, witnessed by a sparse crowd of 8,055.

"Places like the Pit in New Mexico and Cameron (Indoor Stadium at Duke) ... there's never an empty seat no matter who they play," Dupay said. "They play Sisters of the Poor and it's going to be a packed house. This just goes to show you we're not at the level we want to be as a program yet."

Donovan told Dupay he was upset with those comments and has kept him off limits to media following practices this week.

Dupay is averaging 22 points through two games. Donovan didn't say who would take his place in the starting lineup Saturday.

Early last season, Donovan suspended forward Brent Wright two games for "bad attitude."
