SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame basketball player Troy
Murphy, last season's Big East player of the year, was among three
Irish athletes cited for underage drinking.
Murphy, 20, teammate Thomas Timmermans, 19, and football player Gerome
Sapp, 19, were among the 147 minors cited Thursday in a sweep of
Finnigan's, a local bar, South Bend's WNDU-TV reported. Murphy and
Sapp also were cited for possession of false identification.
Those cited must schedule a court date within six days and can
opt for a pretrial diversion program in which they would have to
perform community service.
Murphy and Timmermans could not be reached for comment Friday.
Sapp accompanied the football team to Orlando, Fla., for Saturday's
game against Navy, WNDU said.
Murphy, a 6-foot-9
forward who turns 21 in May, averaged 22.7 points and 10.3 rebounds last season. | |
