Boone leads Badgers past Ohio

  RECAP

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Roy Boone scored 17 points as Wisconsin (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) beat Ohio 65-46 on Saturday to improve to 3-0 under interim coach Brad Soderberg.

Soderberg took over the Badgers (5-1) when Dick Bennett retired three games into his sixth season at Wisconsin.

Kirk Penney added 13 points, Mike Kelley had 10 and Andy Kowske had 11 rebounds for Wisconsin.

Anthony Jones led Ohio (2-2) with 11 points, and Dustin Ford and Steve Esterkamp added 10 points each. The Bobcats were coming off a 90-71 loss to No. 16 Virginia on Wednesday night.

Boone scored 13 points in the first half to help the Badgers build a 31-23 lead. Wisconsin jumped out to a 13-1 lead as Ohio went nearly six minutes without a field goal.

The Bobcats eventually warmed up and chipped away at the lead, pulling to 27-23 on Esterkamp's 3-pointer.

That was as close as Ohio would get as the Bobcats shot just 28 percent in the second half. Ohio, which came in averaging just under 80 points, shot a season-low 33 percent for the game.
