DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Cincinnati found the passion it was missing.
The Bearcats (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today; No. 22 AP) used tenacious man-to-man defense and a
suffocating second-half press to rattle and beat Dayton (No. 24 AP) 82-75 Wednesday night.

Cincinnati (3-1) came into the game off of a 69-51 loss to Notre
Dame on Saturday. Coach Bob Huggins was so miffed by the defeat
that he accused his team of quitting.
"I was embarrassed Saturday. They were embarrassed Saturday,"
Huggins said. "So we went back to doing what we do. We went back
to getting after folks. We had two very physical practices."
Huggins said he wasn't happy that Dayton (2-2) outrebounded
Cincinnati 45-26.
"But I thought our effort was fine," he said. "We played
harder. I thought we played better together."
Another big difference was point guard Steve Logan, who came
into the Dayton game 0-for-11 from 3-point range and shooting only
27 percent overall. Logan scored 21 points against the Flyers and
was 5-for-11 on 3s.
Kenny Satterfield added 20 points and made some critical free
throws late in the game for the Bearcats.
The Flyers, playing as a ranked team in the AP poll for the first time since
1974, were 5-for-9 from 3-point range in the first half, but went
cold in the second, going 2-for-9. Tony Stanley scored 21 points,
and Brooks Hall added 17 for Dayton, but the Flyers turned the ball
over 19 times.
"This was a disappointing loss for us tonight because we were
in control of the game," Dayton coach Oliver Purnell said. "We
were up 13 points, beating a pretty good team. If we take care of
the ball at that point, we're in control of our own destiny and
we're in a position to win."
Purnell acknowledged that the Flyers rebounded well, led by
Yuanta Holland's career-high 13.
"But when you rebound and then turn the ball over, it's like
you never had it to begin with," Purnell said.
With Dayton leading 56-43 with 12:54 left in the game, the
Bearcats went into a full-court press, forcing several turnovers
and scoring nine straight points. Cincinnati tied the game 58-58
with 8:28 left.
The Bearcats took the lead for good with 3:19 remaining on
Jamall Davis' three-point play. Dayton got within 71-70 with 2:09
to play, but Satterfield made 5-of-6 free throws to seal the
game.
Cincinnati leads the series 55-28, winning 37 of the last 44
meetings. The Bearcats have won 10 straight over Dayton, last
losing to the Flyers in 1989.
Dayton rang up victories in the Maui Invitational last week over two ranked
teams -- Maryland and Connecticut, while losing to then-No. 1
Arizona.
