FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (Ticker) -- Alonzo Lane made 7-of-8 and scored 16 points to lead six players in double figures and No. 18 Arkansas set a school record for steals in a 99-59 rout of Louisiana-Monroe.

Charles Tatum scored a career-high 14 points and Brandon Dean contributed 13 for Arkansas (3-1), which stormed to a 48-26 halftime lead.

The Razorbacks, who open the season with eight straight home games, had 26 steals, surpassing the record of 21 set twice before, and forced 36 turnovers.

"The steals record is nice and I'm glad we did that, but it's not about stealing the ball. It's about wear and tear," said Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson, whose team had 12 players score. "Hopefully that catches up with the other team in the last eight or nine minutes of the game because we rotate a lot of players in and out. That's my philosophy."

Kevin Paige scored 18 points and Brian Lubeck added 11 for UL Monroe (1-2), which suffered its second straight loss. The Indians fell to 1-6 all-time against Arkansas.

The Razorbacks led 14-13 with 11:18 remaining in the first half, but took control by going on a 28-6 surge over the next 9:19. Tatum scored five points and Dean and Dionisio Gomez added four each in the surge as Arkansas built a 42-19 advantage with 1:59 left.

Preseason All-America selection Joe Johnson led a balanced attack with seven points in the first half as Arkansas grabbed a 22-point halftime lead. The Razorbacks shot 46 percent (19-of-41), including four 3-pointers, in building their comfortable margin.

Jannero Fargo had 12 points, nine assists and seven steals, two off the school record. Johnson added 11 points and Gomez contributed 10 as Arkansas drained eight 3-pointers and made 51 percent (41-of-80) of its shots. The Razorbacks scored 43 points off turnovers.

UL-Monroe outrebounded held the rebounding edge, 43-37, and shot 43 percent (24-of-55), but made just 2-of-12 3-pointers and 9-of-17 free throws.
