  RECAP | BOX SCORE

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Guard Keiron Shine scored 39 points, including 23 in the second half, to lead the Memphis Tigers to an 82-72 victory over Miami (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, unranked AP) on Saturday.

Shine connected on 12-of-16 from the field, including six-of-seven 3-pointers. He added 9-of-10 free throws as the Tigers (4-2) put together a 14-2 run with just under five minutes to play to pull away.

Marcus Moody and Kelly Wise added 13 points each for Memphis.

Miami (3-1) was led by Mario Bland with 22 and Johnny Hemsley with 20. Elton Tyler finished with 11.

Memphis led 30-28, but the Hurricanes scored the first eight points of the second half, as Bland and Hemsley collected a pair of baskets each.

That gave Miami a 36-30 lead, and the Hurricanes would eventually build the advantage to eight with 12:18 left, when Hemsley scored inside.

Miami maintained a four-to-six point lead through much of the middle portion of the second half. Each time, Memphis would whittle into the advantage, many times behind the shooting of Shine.

Miami held a 63-62 lead with 5:04 remaining when Tyler grabbed a rebound basket.

Then the Tigers started their stretch run, including nine consecutive points. The major play in the sequence came when Miami's Paulo Coelho was called for an intentional foul, as Shine drove to the basket.

Shine hit both free throws and on the ensuing possession nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key for a 71-63 lead.

Memphis would eventually build a lead to 12 when Shine hit a pair of free throws with 12:05 seconds left for an 81-69 lead.

In the final minute, Memphis hit eight of ten free throws to preserve its lead. One of those misses was by Shine with just over seven seconds to play, and was the only shot he missed in the second half.
