BOX SCORE
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ A little patience and a few subtle offensive changes were all No. 16 Tennessee needed to get back on track. The Vols slowed down their attack long enough to get better shots and it paid off in a 72-46 victory over Radford on Sunday. Tennessee (12-1) got virtually everyone involved on the offensive end as 10 players scored. Jon Higgins and Marcus Haislip led the way with 11 points each. Rian Everett led Radford (4-6) with 15 points. Vols coach Jerry Green, who had criticized his team for rushing shots in recent games, was pleased to see his team become more patient. "We adjusted one of our offenses and added another," Green said. "It helped us. We were more team-oriented. This past week I saw some things we needed to do and we made the adjustments. If we keep playing like that we will be OK." C.J. Black, who added eight points for Tennessee, said the Vols benefited from the more disciplined offensive approach. "We made the offense simpler so we wouldn't just be running freelance," Black said. "We're trying to work hard to get the extra pass. We want to work the defense to get a better shot." A 14-3 run to open the second half proved to be the difference for Tennessee, which led by as many as 28 points late in the game. The Vols kept control with pressure defense and hot shooting. Higgins, who hit 3-of-4 3-pointers, hit two 3s in the early run and Black added five points. Radford's only basket in the first five minutes of the second half was a 3-pointer by Raymond Arrington. "Coach Green wanted us to apply the pressure even more in the second half," Higgins said. "We wanted to pressure them into taking quick shots." Terrence Woods and Walker added 3-pointers in another spurt by Tennessee that pushed the lead to 67-39. Radford scored just two points in the eight-minute span. Radford played Tennessee on even terms for the first 10 minutes of the first half, and even took a 20-19 lead on Everett's steal and layup with 11:10 left. The Vols' offense was sparked early by the 3-pointer. But Radford stayed close behind the scoring of Ryan Charles and Everett, who hit two 3-pointers in the first half. But a 14-0 run, led by Vincent Yarbrough and Ron Slay, allowed the Vols to take a 33-20 lead with five minutes left in the half. Radford went almost eight minutes without scoring during the spurt by Tennessee. "We ran our offense trying to run down the clock and their defense, but they athletically overmatched us," Radford coach Ron Bradley said. "They just wore us down."
