Michael Jordan has said repeatedly that he is not going to play again. He's nowhere near the physical condition he would have to be in. And even for someone as dedicated as Michael, it would be a tough chore to return after two years of inactivity.
That is not to say that he wouldn't have the skill to play what would be acceptably well to most people. He would. But most people are not Michael Jordan. His level of play would not be what he is used to. He can't do the magical things he was capable of forever. Michael would have to have the ultra-motivation that we all remember him having in his prime and he has never sounded like he was at all interested in a comeback. Maybe the most deterring factor is that, even if Michael were to come back, he couldn't make the Wizards into winners immediately. He would surely help them, but they would not be a championship contending team and they may not even have enough to make the playoffs. As a PR move, there wouldn't be much that would compare to the circus that would be generated. Mario Lemieux's comeback in Pittsburgh would be miniscule. Magic Johnson's comeback was similar, but still was nothing like the magnitude of this. Remember, also, that the Lakers were not able to get over the hurdle when Magic returned and they had a much better team than the Wizards do. This would be great for the Wizards and a much-needed shot in the arm for the league, but almost certainly won't happen. |
