NBA Rank Comments

Kenny Anderson
Kenny Anderson and the Celtics were a topic this week.
Comments on our Power Rankings varied a bunch this week, from such topics as the Celtics losing to Chicago to the Bucks dropping far down after a bad week. The Knicks? You guys were pretty quiet, and we thank you for that.

Anyway, let's get right to it. Here is a sampling of what you wrote since our Power Rankings were unveiled on Monday. By the way, the Power Rankings will start being unveiled every Tuesday starting immediately, as they will be discussed each Tuesday night on the NBA 2Night on ESPN2. Keep those comments coming on our rankings, Around The Rim or anything NBA by clicking here.

And for all of you writing in to say Lamar Odom is one of the top rookies, take a closer look at our Rookie Report. Those five we highlight are not the best rookies, just guys we want to discuss. If we wrote about the best rookies every week, the list would never change. We agree Odom is one of the top rookies.

I would like to say that I was appalled that the Celtics lost to the Junior Varsity team in Chicago. I am a huge Celtics fan, but for that, you should have sent them straight to the bottom of the rankings for a week. They did beat the Knicks though, and how about Pierce and Griffin against the Cavs the other night? This team looks promising but I will not be able to stomach another loss to the Bulls.

I don't understand why there is so much sympathy for the Knicks? They continue to lose, yet you still want to consider one of the better teams in the East? Well they're not better than the Celtics as we've already proved, and Adrian Griffin is all-Rookie first team.

I have to say, your power rankings this week are right on the money, for now. The Knicks will wake up and so will the Nets and the 76ers. The Clippers, you heard it hear first, are a No. 15-20 ranked team by the end of December. By the turn of the century, your top five will be, Spurs, Blazers, T'wolves, Kings and Knicks.

You rank the Magic awfully low. They may not have won as many games as others but they are always in it till the end. Other teams, that are "better" are being ranked ahead of the Magic, even though the Magic are playing better basketball.

I really don't have a question, it's more like a statement. The Milwaukee Bucks are a hell of a lot better than the power ranking that you gave them. The Knicks, Cavs, and Hornets have very solid teams, I admit that. However, there was nothing wrong with the Bucks' performance against those teams. It was just that the opposition was on fire. The Cavs and Hornets could not miss a shot. They all shot a combined 60% from the field, that's amazing. Plus, you have to give the Bucks some credit for making great comebacks in those games. They pulled together and battled adversity as a team. I am definitely proud of them and their achievements this year. Taking all of this into consideration, hopefully, the Bucks' Power Ranking will be higher next week.

The Sonics will continue to surprise, in part due to Gary Payton's focus on winning without care for stats and in part due to Ruben Patterson being much better than anyone knew before the season. Sonics will finish with a better record than Pacers, Kings, and T-Wolves.

Please keep the Jazz low. They do much better than when they are ranked high. The Jazz have shown that they will beat the best. They beat the Blazers! They beat the Spurs! They even beat the #1 Knicks (yeah, right). It is too funny to see the three old men school the young guys night after night!

Kings????? 6th.... Come on! Well, they haven't proved their meddle vs Golden State, but how long before Jason Williams gets his streak of double doubles (11 air balls, 12 turnovers). Don't confuse exciting with good.

Being one of the few self-proclaimed Atlanta Hawks fans in Georgia, I honestly don't see how you ranked them as high as you did. Remember how, during opening week, you had the UConn Huskies ranked above the Bulls? Well... right now, I think the Georgia Bulldogs could give the Hawks a run for their money, and Georgia Tech would beat them like a dusty rug. As much as I dislike him for bailing on his teammates already, J.R. Rider has a point. The Hawks are going nowhere.

What, the Wizards next to last? Come on! Put them at the bottom, they have more losses than the Warriors! This Mom & Pop organization has not had any direction for years!

I've got the feeling that a lot of fans from San Antonio, Miami, and probably elsewhere feel that their teams should be No. 1 right now. And since most people that respond here probably complain rather than compliment [Editor's note: You have no idea], I wanted to balance the scales a little and say that there is no team playing better basketball right now than the Trail Blazers. Scottie Pippen is showing that he will be a better fit here than Houston and when was the last time you have ever seen a team so deep? Even the 12th man on the team, Joe Kleine, has a big responsibility to the team's success, Hack-A-Shaq.

My compliments for keeping the Blazers where they belong. The Utah loss, while not indicative of the strength of this Portland team, could have been used as an easy excuse to justify dropping them below either the Spurs or Lakers. The road to the Millennium Championship ends in the Rip City.

I just wanted to commend you on being paid to do something that has absolutely no societal value whatsoever. I realize that this isn't a question, but I knew that you were holding your breath wondering what I thought. So there you have it.

Okay, enough with the third degree. When will you Americans ever respect any team coming from Canada. The Raptors have clearly shown that they are better than this so called "Power Rankings." I mean, what they heck are you guys at ESPN using to pick these teams! Rock, paper, scissors?
