EL SEGUNDO, Calif. Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant
will not play in tonight's game against Atlanta because of
a sprained right ankle.

Bryant sat out the Lakers' 101-99 victory at San Antonio on
Wednesday because of the injury. He injured his ankle late in a
119-109 victory at Dallas on Tuesday night. He did not take part in team workouts Friday.
He decided 30 minutes before Wednesday's game against the Spurs
he wouldn't play.
"It was too painful, really," Bryant said afterward. "That
was pretty much it. I could barely walk on it."
Black said Bryant didn't participate in a light practice
Thursday, receiving treatment instead.
Black also said longtime Lakers announcer Chick Hearn, who
missed only his second half of basketball in more than 35 years
because of laryngitis, is expected to broadcast his 3,273rd
straight game Friday night.
Hearn awoke feeling under the weather in San Antonio, and was
treated by a local doctor. He struggled through the first half
before deciding he could no longer call the game. Lakers guard
Derek Fisher, who is on the injured list, finished the game with
Stu Lantz, Hearn's color commentator for 14 seasons.
Hearn also had a case of laryngitis six years ago, causing him
to miss part of a playoff game against San Antonio.
