SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan missed Thursday night's game against Portland because of a slight cartilage tear in his left knee. The Blazers won 93-77.

Duncan, who underwent an MRI exam Thursday, is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against Utah. The All-Star forward injured the knee Tuesday against Sacramento.

Duncan, last season's playoff MVP, averages 23.2 points and 12.4 rebounds per game this season, his third in the NBA out of Wake Forest.

Duncan's injury is a big setback for San Antonio as the defending NBA champion embarks on the final stretch of the regular season with hopes of improving its playoff position to gain home-court advantage in the first round. San Antonio currently is fifth in the Western Conference, 1½ games behind the fourth-place Phoenix Suns.
