WASHINGTON -- Veteran shooting guard Mitch Richmond, who has suffered through a forgettable season with the Washington Wizards, was placed on the injured list with a fractured right rib Monday.

Richmond, 34, suffered the injury, which is expected to sideline him two weeks, in Saturday's loss to the Detroit Pistons. Richmond leads the Wizards in scoring at 16.8 points per game but is shooting just 43.5 percent from the field.

A six-time All-Star and former member of Dream Team II, Richmond was acquired from Sacramento in May 1998 and has not participated in the playoffs since 1996.

He does not appear likely to end that streak this season as Washington suffered its fourth straight loss Monday, 105-101 to the Boston Celtics, and remained in last place in the Atlantic Division with a 12-27 record.

To fill Richmond's roster spot, the Wizards activated Laron Profit off the injured list. The rookie guard has played 78 minutes in 12 games this season, scoring a total of 11 points.

With Richmond out, fellow rookie Richard Hamilton started against the Celtics.

"We will miss Mitch on the court," Wizards general manager Wes Unseld said. "However, we do feel that Richard Hamilton is capable of stepping up and giving us help at that position."
